The head office of the
bank Petrocommerce is situated at the
intersection of Petrovka Street and Rakhmanovsky lane. It so happened that the
bank premises are located on two sides of Rakhmanovsky lane: main part in the
head office building, the additional in the premises of the Marine house on the
opposite side (tenancy).
Our task was to ensure a single
information channel between the bank divisions. It seemed impossible to
cable in the conduit in Rakhmanovsky lane (available conduits were
overloaded; performance of earthwork in the heart of Moscow takes long
time to get approval
of municipal authorities).
Overhead stringing of cables on
suspenders was rejected by Moskomarkhitektura (Moscow Architecture Committee)
because of design. After long considerations, the Customer was offered the
wireless version using infrared wireless optical communication cannel (WOCC).
The system transforms
electrical signals of 100Base-TХ standard (Fast Ethernet IEEE 802.3u)
into near-infrared optical signals (850-890 nm), transmits them in the
atmosphere as a concentrated beam, receives and transforms from optical to
electrical ones. This model is designed for line-of-sight communications at a
distance of up to 250 m.
Capacity margin and
built-in system of defogging and defrosting system ensure reliable
communication virtually in any weather conditions (rain, hail, snow and fog).
Transitory communication failure may arise only in case of very extraordinary
natural phenomena close to natural disasters.
Example of such
phenomenon may be snow squalls, when the human eye does not see at all the
other side of communication channel. But in case of use of
the system at distances under 250 m, the communication reliability sharply
roses. In heavy fog, zero visibility does not mean absence of visibility in infrared spectrum.
After mounting and
commissioning, the system has shown high reliability and throughput results and has been accepted by the Customer into
operation without any complaint. Two-year operation at several facilities has
shown very high system reliability: there were no communication failures
between users in any weather conditions.
